How to make your own digital story

If you've seen the digital stories created by the workshop participants and thought you like to try it here is a quick guide
  1. Decide what you what to tell a story about, often digital stories have some personal connection. IN our project we thought about our connection to Milton Keynes.
  2. Create a short 2-3 minute narrative (this can be a short folk tale, history or a personal story) some might like to do this by writing (about 450 words) and some might like to create it through spoken word.
  3. Choose or take photos which connect to your story* (its best to use photos you own to avoid copyright issues)
  4. You can record your story using the voice recorder available on most smartphones. You could also include short pieces of music (again beware of copyright)
  5. Using video editing software of choice upload your audio recording and photos.
  6. Most offer drag and drop options place the audio in the sound section and the photos in the video/picture section.
  7. Arrange the photos in the order to match your story and edit the length the photos are displayed to fit your audio file. Some software might let you use special effects or sound effects add if you want*
  8. Finish your story and save as a MP4 or MPEG file, this can now be shared on social media or video sharing sites (such as YouTube). Remember to share with me too.
* Less is more, it is better to use fewer images (3-6) held on screen for longer than lots constantly changing. Sound effect and special effects can make your story confusing if over used by taking the focus from your words.
